We promised ourselves we’d be different. After all, we of all people know about this, all too well. The pain, hunger, helplessness, the indifference of others. “Never again”, we swore. We won’t let this happen; we are different. Have we already forgotten?

Now is the time to wake up. To cry out for the millions of refugees, thousands of others under siege, mass public executions, the skies raining down never-ending fire. For the woman, who asks her husband as a final act of loving kindness, to end her life — to avoid her being raped. And another woman. And another. And others.

And for the children. Thousands of orphans, lost, torn from their families, burned alive. Trapped. None of us know their names.

And to the world that says, not now, it’s not important. And Putin. And interests. And to those who say “as it is, they hate us.” Or, what can even be done at this point.

And the silence.

But… there is no such thing as “the world.” It is us. Here. In the adjacent courtyard.

So, it’s time to open our eyes and face the horrors.

It’s our turn to act, to do, to make a difference.

Mere kilometers separate us from the hell taking place beyond our border. We share the same sky.

Two months ago, on the eve of Yom Kippur, we gathered thousands of Israelis, men and women, religious and secular, Jews, Muslims, Christians — to pray together and cry out.

Now we turn to you, to take action with us.

Among the millions of displaced Syrians, just beyond the border, are thousands of children and infants, trying to survive the winter. We can help them!

The long war has unraveled the lives of millions of people now living as refugees: Homeless, without security or a future. In the complex Syrian reality, when aid to one side comes at the expense of the other, we say: Remove the children from this formula. Helping children is always a good thing. It’s essential.

We all want to help – now there’s a way to do it.
